Installation and System Maintenance

System Installation

How do we convert a vehicle to alternative fuels like propane or natural gas? At a glance, it’s really quite simple. First, a storage vessel for CNG or LPG is selected in accordance with your requirements. The tank will typically be located in the trunk, under the vehicle in place of the spare tire, or in the bed of a truck.

Next, we run lines from the tank to the engine bay of the vehicle to get your alternative fuel of choice to a usable location. A filling valve is also installed.

A computer is installed which controls the functions of the alternative fuels system and makes sure that it works in harmony with the original vehicle’s systems. The final piece of the puzzle are the alternative fuel injectors which will deliver fuel to the engine.

We use the award winning Prins Autogas Conversion systems for most of our conversions!

How do you maintain a vehicle that runs on Alternative Fuels?

Alternative Fuel hybrid vehicles running on propane (LPG) or natural gas (CNG) will have a fuel filter that needs to be changed periodically (every 25,000 km). The process is very fast and inexpensive so you can get back on the road in less time than it takes to change your engine oil. Better yet, get them done at the same time!

Installation and System Maintenance

Some vehicles may use a few other specialized components such as fuel additives which help to keep the gasoline injectors clean. Your converted vehicle has separate injectors for LPG or CNG, and because you’ll be busy saving money and the environment using your alternative fuel of choice, the gasoline injectors won’t be running most of the time and can become dirty. An injector cleaning additive will keep them clean so they’re ready when you need them.

Keep up with regular filter changes and you can expect your Alternative Fuels vehicle to run reliably. Easy right? When you visit us for any maintenance we will perform a 20 point inspection of your vehicle’s Alternative Fuels system to ensure that you spend more time on the road, and less time on the side of it.
